What are "secure sockets"?

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) provides a way for us to encrypt any data that is transferred between our web site and your browser.  This means that any information that you send to us via the web (like all of the data on the order form, which includes your name, address, telephone number, etc.) is encrypted (sent in "secret code").

Anyone who intercepts this encrypted data while it is in transit between our site and your browser will not be able to use the data, as it will appear to be a jumble random characters, and contain no useful information. In order for the data to be useful, it has to be decrypted (or un-encrypted), and only our site has the "secret key" required to decrypt the data.

You can tell which screens are protected by this encryption because your browser will display an indicator that the session is being encrypted (most browsers include a "padlock" icon that appears on any pages that are secured by encryption. Our order form is such a page - look for the padlock - usually at the bottom of the screen - that indicates encryption at the bottom of our order forms)
